Alison,

Sounds like you're navigating the permitting process nicely. So many people are unaware of the new energy code requirements that have gone in effect across the country.

It's also nice to see you're putting your investment in the energy features of your home. You will be very glad both financially and comfort wise. I look forward to following your story as you build.

Samantha, first, thank you for leaving a real, human comment! I've been hammered with spam lately, so getting any comment that doesn't start with "[movie star name] picture nude" is a relief!

Second, yes, I've seen the Cap and Trade fiasco. Stunning. While I didn't expect to have political commentary on this blog, it's hard to avoid when the federal government is reaching into every corner of our lives.

The idea of federal inspectors approving or disapproving home sales is beyond belief. That's just the way to help out homeowners!

Cap & Trade as a whole is nonsensical. So if Al Gore wants to keep his home with a carbon footprint 20 times that of the US average, he can do so (and assuage his illogical conscience) by buying credits from someone who wouldn't use the energy anyway! And he can fly around the world in his private jet to line his pockets with the same "justification."

I'd be really down on him if he hadn't invented the internet.

You know, Ed Bagley, Jr., comes off as a bit of a kook somtimes, but at least he lives the same principles he promotes.

I agree 100%. Safety = yes. But this constant intrusion into our lives is intolerable. Have you seen the latest outrage if this Cap And Trade gets the nod from our esteemed legislators? One of the provisions is that if we want to sell our house we will have to get approval from the EPA to do so!!! We will have to apply for an EPA inspection (heaven only knows how long that will take) and then an inspector will come out and rate our house based on many criteria, and if anything is lacking, in his opinion, we will have to fix it before we can sell. In effect, The Man will be telling us where we can and can't live.

Thanks for the kind words, Kathy. I'm afraid, however, your amusement may be more due to the fact that you're up at this ungodly hour than to a knack for humorous writing!

You an insomniac, too?

I agree about the government intrusion. Homes would certainly be more affordable and accessible if The Man got out of the way.

This seriously cracked me up. Who would have thought that something this mundane could be entertaining to read about?

Now as for all the hoops cities make us jump through to build, I have nothing positive to contribute.
