energy star Energy Star Rebate FinderThe rebate system for energy-efficient improvements is a baffling array of governmental nonsense. No surprise there. If you do exactly what the EPA tells you to do, when they tell you to do it, while living where they want you to live — and presumably with the politicians and lobbyists they like bargaining on your behalf — they might throw you some money. That they took from you last April 15th.

Anyway.

If you’re doing something green and exciting by way of windows, insulation, appliances, etc., you might qualify to jump through some serious hoops to get a pittance of your hard-earned money back. Here’s one resource for sorting through the mess.

  1. Go to the Energy Star site.
  2. Click on Products>Rebate Finder.
  3. Enter your zip code.
  4. Select the products you are interested in. (If you scroll to the bottom of the list, you can click “Check All.”)
  5. Click Locate Special Offers/Rebates.

This will give you a list of the current offers/rebates for your area. Note the various expiration dates in the far right column and all the conditions.

Thanks for the good info. We are looking at replacing air conditioning with the hot weather coming and we found out there is a big rebate for us if we get the right model. I had no idea these things existed.

On the other hand, it does kind of make me wonder why someone else’s money should be used to pay for my air conditioning. But I think I’ll just think it’s my own money coming back to me.
