A Hole!

A Hole! After all the years of waiting and planning, digging the hole was almost anticlimactic. In our last home, the hole was a cavernous expanse. In this home…well…it wasn’t.

Because of the depth of the sewer line running down our street, the basement can’t be very deep. If we want the toilets to flush, that is. So rather than dig deep, we actually have to build the front of the lot up. And since the back is going to be a walk-out basement, the hole just levels out in the back.

Not nearly as impressive as the last hole — if you’re into that kind of thing — but it’s the hole we need to finally get to work on the house. Cheers!

how exciting!! I remember when we first built.. it was the same kind of feeling. Excitement.. tinged with a final understanding that this really was ONLY the beginning! Good luck! :-)

Alyssa, thanks for the encouragement/commiseration! We’re making enough progress now to really envision the finished product. Fun — if difficult — project!

I just ran across this post. Wow. If you had told me that over ten months later we’d still not be in the house, I think I would have done myself some physical harm. With our move-in date of May five months behind us, this post isn’t so exciting anymore.
