Staircase Leading to the Depths of Hell

stairs Staircase Leading to the Depths of HellThe builders — waiting for it to stop SNOWING IN APRIL — installed a makeshift staircase from the basement to the main floor yesterday. Alana says they look like “the depths of hell.” Truth be told, it was a little scary for Samson to climb them. But better than a ladder, if you ask me. Mostly.

We have had so much precipitation this past couple of weeks. It’s making me crazy. We woke up to snow the past three days in a row. Yesterday afternoon we had two hail storms. After weeks of delays in January — with great weather — to have a freezing cold, snowy April is more than annoying. I don’t like the thought of the wood being exposed this long to the elements.

Anyway, we took a trek upstairs yesterday when the stairs were done. The main floor is clear of all the concrete panels and 2×4′s outline every room and closet on that level. Now we can walk from room to room and see where the walls are going to be.

Samson thought it was funny to stand in the “library” and the “kitchen.” Mostly I was terrified  that he would:

  • Fall into the staircase expanse
  • Fall through the front doorway into the cement storage room
  • Fall through the back doorway into the backyard

Fortunately my fears were unfounded. We all survived.

It looks sturdy but steep. An appropriate amount of care should be observed while taking each step. :-)

LOL, yea. Until the stairs are filled in and the rails added, I’m going to watch my step. :)
