My husband, Sam, lived in American Samoa from the time he was eight until he was 11. His parents were teaching at a private school. Seven years later he went back across the sea and served a two-year religious mission in both American Samoa and Wester Samoa. Needless to say, we have a love for [...]
One of the great features the city of Lindon, Utah, provides for homeowners is irrigation water. We had culinary water for cooking, drinking, and bathing, as usual, but we also have irrigation water that is used for yards and gardens. Because it requires less processing, the irrigation water is significantly less expensive, making yard and [...]
Spring is here. Truly we didn’t have much winter to begin with — certainly an oddity in Utah — but after a winter with 300 percent of the typical snowfall, a dry winter was welcome to most of us. The city turned the water on this week and we’re ready to begin getting the yard [...]
This post brought to you by Bulbs. Dig, Drop, Done.. All opinions are 100% mine. Having just built a new home, we are fortunate to have a brand new yard. While it doesn’t remotely have mature plantings, it has the advantage of being fairly low maintenance, due to updated materials and new fixtures. Still, it’s [...]
According to BankRate, there are a few home upgrades that pay off for resale. The suggestions are: Upgrade the kitchen with nicer cabinets, fancier hardware, and good fixtures. Make your kitchen appliances match in color/design. Spruce up the bathrooms with new toilets or contemporary vanities. Brush a fresh coat of paint on just about everything. [...]
Winter finally hit Utah. Kind of. We had a dusting of snow on Saturday morning — that melted by noon. It’s only the second snow fall of the year. After a 300% precipitation year last year, this year we’re at something like 2%. And, OK, it’s 40 today and above freezing every day this week. [...]
I know it’s a funny time to be thinking about lawn sprinklers. Most of the country is in the midst of winter weather. But here’s the deal. I love seasons. One of the reasons we moved back to Utah from Florida is that we actually like dry air and having weather variety other than “hot” [...]

Today our culinary water line was connected. Big trench in the front yard, new cover, hole in the cold storage side wall. Unfortunately the water meter cover is pretty much dead center in the front yard. Hopefully with the placement of the walk and plantings it won’t be too obtrusive. Lindon has a grey water [...]
This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Woodstream. All opinions are 100% mine. When we lived in Boca Raton, Florida — with a home that backed up to the everglades — we had two major wildlife concerns: Alligators that lived in the lake behind our home Racoons that made a stinking [...]
This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Deer Off. All opinions are 100% mine. One day when we lived on the five-acre lot in Eagle Mountain, I drove up to the garage to find an entire herd of deer in the side yard. There were at least 14 of all sizes. [...]
The back patio and walkway are in! The crew dug the holes for the footings last week and yesterday they laid the forms. This morning the cement truck came and they poured and smoothed out the surface. Gorgeous. This crew does beautiful concrete work. (Can concrete be beautiful? Yes, it can!)
The trench around the french drain was filled with gravel and fill dirt was brought around to the front of the house to fill in around the foundation. It look like an entrance now. The slope from the sidewalk isn’t nearly as steep as it seemed it would be.
It’s been over three months since the tubing for the basement radiant floor hydronic heating was installed. Today sheeting was put down and the tubing for the main floor radiant was put in place. Later Sam took the boys to see the progress and spend some grand time taking advantage of the enormous dirt hills. [...]

But this might be the best time to start thinking about how you’re going to outfit your yard for those backyard barbecues and family games. You can find some great deals and soon backyard essentials will be fully stocked. One [...]

It’s that time of year again. Time to comply with city code and clear our lot of the wild grass before it engulfs our soon-to-be neighbor’s home. While we’re at it, we’ve decided to take out the two junk trees that are growing on our lot. Neither is in good shape and both pose a [...]
Looking for someone to remove the 20ish foot tree on our lot, stump and all. We also have a bit of old barbed wire fence and a sewer pipe that we need hauled away. Made some inquiries. Not much pressure to get it done yet, but at least it’s something I can actually do. While [...]
